The TWODWELL story
TWODWELL was built to make ADUs simple, certain, and achievable, for the professionals who make them happen. Here’s how we got here.
Like many good stories, this one starts with two different points of view.
A broker and a builder.
Jeff ran a brokerage. Billy ran a construction firm. In 2014, they merged the two into a single, high-end custom home building company responsible for some of the most meticulous homes in California. As demand for accessory dwelling units surged, ADUs became a bigger and bigger part of their work.
Jeff and Billy saw the ADU problem from two different sides.
Jeff worked every listing as a broker. He kept running into the same vague phrase, “ADU potential,” with no specifics, no numbers, nothing a buyer or seller could act on. He wanted to fix that right at the point of the real estate transaction.
Billy saw the other half of it. Homeowners wanted to build, but the permit and construction process was complicated enough to stall most projects before they started. He wanted to help people actually get through it, and move the needle on real housing getting built.
That’s also why TWODWELL is a Public Benefit Corporation. A PBC is a legal structure that requires a company to balance profit with a stated public mission, not just shareholder returns. More ADUs means more housing, and Jeff and Billy wanted that mission built into the company itself, not bolted on beside the business. TWODWELL exists to grow the ADU industry and make housing more accessible, while running a business that works.
